THE PARABLE OF
THE GREAT BANQUET:

GOD IS INVITING US TO THE PARTY OF ALL PARTIES IN HEAVEN - WILL YOU ACCEPT HIS INVITATION?

Following Jesus, which we were thinking about last week, isn't always easy - is it? How did you get on? There are lots of things today that grab our attention and influence us in our thinking and actions, pulling us a way from following God's higher ways for us. Sometimes the ways of the world can seem so much easier. Following Jesus might make us sometimes stand out or require us to speak up rather than stay silent and sometimes it might make us feel uncomfortable. We might find ourselves failing over and over again in our walk with Jesus.

BUT Don't lose heart though!

That is what a church family is for - to encourage each other and to keep cheering each other on.

More importantly, we are each invited to the party - to worship God today and to experience him today and for eternity because of Jesus and what he has done for us on the cross. It is because of His worthiness.

I love a good party, so let's get started...

BISCUIT TIME:

At any great party there is always delicious food.

As you munch on your biscuit today I wonder - "What would be your favourite party food?"

pARABLE OF THE BANQUET
THE PARABLE OF THE GREAT BANQUET

There was always a reason as to why Jesus told a parable (a story).

Can you understand what Jesus was trying to say from today's story?

Why did people give such excuses for not attending the party?

The master wasn't happy that his party was only half full - what does this tell us about Jesus?

The master invited everyone, the lame, the sick, the poor to his party. What does this tell us about heaven?

BUT, Jesus reminds us that "Many get invited, but only a few make it." (Matthew 22:14) They are haunting and slightly uncomfortable words... The great news is however, that the answer is simple. You and I are invited to experience God now and for all eternity. The only response required of us is to say Yes!

WORSHIP AND REFLECTION: THANK YOU FOR THE CROSS

YOU WILL NEED:

Small cards, pens, drawing pins, wooden cross made from 2 pieces of wood.

To make a cross, use two suitably sized pieces of wood and either nail together or lash together with string. Have the cross lying on the ground unless you can make it stand up with no danger of it falling!

Ask your children to think about the story of Easter. Remind them that it was for them that Jesus died on the cross and came back to life again. Give everyone a few minutes to write a thank you note to God – it can be as simple as they like – watch out for the younger ones who might need help.

When they are ready, help them to pin their notes to the cross.

Gratitude scares away fear - Every day share three things that you are thankful for.

Helping children and young people cope with the coronavirus

Hello everyone,

With all the current news on the coronavirus, and in the face of such uncertain circumstances, there is a lot of fear in the world in which we live in today. Understandably, this is having an affect on our children and young people, many of whom are feeling afraid and anxious too.

It is in no way our intention to interfere in parenting however, as part of a caring Christian community, we wanted to share some thoughts and comfort with you from a Christian perspective as you seek to help your children cope with this unprecedented situation.

As Christians we are not immune to fear or anxiety either but the Bible is full of encouragement and advice on how to cope with our fears. It is right that we continue to follow the practical advice we are given in order to stay safe but here are some Bible verses that you might like to read with your children if they are feeling anxious or afraid and they might like to reflect on them particularly if they are having difficulty trying to go to sleep:

Isaiah 41:10

Psalm 56:3

Philippians 4:6-7

John 14:27

When we are faced with such fears it is not always easy to trust in God, but when we are faced with difficult situations we have a choice. We can choose not to let the fear and anxiety rule our life or we can choose to reject the fear and anxiety. This isn't always easy but the more we practice the better we are likely to be. A Christian who experiences fear has not 'failed' but God has a better plan for our lives than living in that place of fear. Ultimately, our trust is in the Lord, and as church we are believing for continued health, protection and that this virus will pass quickly.   If at any time you do need to isolate, please let us know so that we can support you in practical ways. (Godly Wisdom from Urban Saints).

If any family has to isolate itself do let us know so that we can help in practical ways.

Love and blessings

Alex and Rupert.

SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

ST. MARK'S PRIMARY SCHOOL
St.Mark's Church is really proud of the special relationship we enjoy with St. Mark's Primary School. The children frequently visit the church for various worship sessions, end of term services and special events we host throughout the year. We are always delighted to welcome the children to sing and entertain us at our Lent and Christmas community lunches. Rev'd Rupert Higgins is a member of the Governing Board and along with Alex, the Children's Minister, they regualrly lead the school in worship.

A new interactive prayer wall is created, by Alex, for the children every half of term to encourage the children to learn to pray and talk to God - this is great fun and the children are very imaginative with writing and drawing their prayers.

Alex leads two very popular weekly pastoral groups for the year 6 girls - CONNECT - and year 6 boys - TRIBE - activley engaging with the children about God, faith, life, identitiy and self worth, with a selction of fun and creative activities.
